Jenna Lyons is a global style icon, former creative director and president of J. Crew, and the founder of a new beauty line called Loveseen. But did you know that she also has a rare genetic condition that affects her eyelashes? Jenna Lyons suffers from a genetic condition known as incontinentia pigmenti, which can affect skin and lash growth. In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Lyons admits she doesn’t have lashes. She says, “I’m keenly aware of how transformative eyelashes can be and how they can impact how people see themselves and how others see them…I thought maybe this could be a sweet spot for me”.
Lyons teamed up with Troi Ollivierre, former J. Crew makeup artist and founder of Troy Ollivierre Beauty, to create Loveseen, a line of faux lashes for everyday wear. They tested the lashes on a variety of models, eye shapes, and skin tones, and came up with 10 different styles, each designed to work on every eye shape and skin tone. Lyons says, “Beauty had allure in the sense that it didn’t matter what size, age, gender or ethnicity you were. Anyone could play, and it didn’t have the same pace that the fashion industry did”.
Loveseen lashes are cruelty-free, natural-looking, and easy to apply. They come in black, light brown, and brown-black, and range from subtle to high-impact. Lyons’s favorite style is The Jack, a super-subtle lash designed to enhance, not overpower. She says, “I love big bright eyes and lashes. The Jack—and all Loveseen lashes—give you enough definition to pair with a red lip, without requiring you do a full eye beat”. Other standout styles include The Levi, short, not-even-a-half-strip lashes designed to give eyes a subtle lift, and The Luca, false lashes designed specifically for hooded eyes.
